It's fun to watch school-age kids discovering the world and coming into their own as people. But there are still challenges and issues.....

Kids and TV

"Other than a child's family, there is no force today which influences behavior as powerfully as does television." So says Dr. T. B. Brazelton, author of Touchpoints (see the accompanying list). Dr. Brazelton recommends limiting a child's time in front of the television to one hour a day on weekdays and two hours a day on weekends. He also recommends that parents actively watch television with their children for half that time, so that TV becomes a social activity.

Kids and School

Working with your child's school and teachers is very important. Here I'll share some examples with helping children navigate issues such as homework, bullies, and test anxiety.
